What is "Boost" in Telegram?
The "Boost" feature in Telegram functions very similarly to its counterpart in the voice messenger Discord: any user with an active Premium subscription can select a channel and grant it a "Boost"—their conditional vote. While users can only support one channel at a time, they have the flexibility to change their vote every 24 hours simply by voting for another community. In such cases, their previous vote becomes inactive.
Subscribed users cannot directly choose which channel to boost. For a channel to begin receiving Boosts, its author must publish a unique Boost link. Subscribers can then utilize this new feature with a single tap by clicking on the link.
How it works:
- Navigate to your channel's profile.
- Tap the three dots in the top right corner and select "Statistics."
- On the opened page, you will find a voting link that can be copied to your clipboard or directly shared on your channel.
All relevant information, such as the number of Boosts required to reach the next level and a list of subscribers who have voted for the channel, is visible on this same page. It's important to note that Boosts do not apply to users who received a Premium subscription as a gift. Furthermore, if a user who provided a Boost to a channel has their subscription expire, their vote will also become inactive.
Why are Boosts Essential for Telegram Channels?
Primarily, Telegram's new channel support system aims to enhance audience engagement and foster stronger interaction between creators and their followers. A Boost from users signifies appreciation for the content being published. Beyond this, Boosts enable a channel to post Stories—short, ephemeral video messages.
This functionality operates on a level system: for every 1 level achieved through subscriber Boosts, a channel gains the ability to publish 1 story per day. Consequently, higher levels unlock the capacity to post more stories daily. The number of Boosts needed to reach the next level is calculated using a straightforward formula: 0.004×[number of channel subscribers]. To be eligible to publish stories, the channel owner must possess an active Premium subscription. Without it, even if the required number of votes is accumulated, story publication will not be possible.
Unlike some other messengers, direct replies to channel stories are not supported. A recent news announcement from Telegram also indicated that the Boost system might offer additional beneficial features for channels in the future.
